History of the Da’udi Bohra Tayyibis in Modern Times: The Da’is, the Da’wat and the Community

A chapter authored by Zumurrudatu Da'watil Haqq Shehzadi Dr. Bazat Saifiyah Baisaheba Qutbuddin on the modern history of the Dawoodi Bohra community. This chapter was published in the book entitled A Modern History of the Ismailis: Continuity and Change in a Muslim Community, edited by Farhad Daftary, I.B.Tauri, 2010. The chapter presents a brief survey of the Da’is since the 43rd Da’i Syedna ‘Abde-Ali Saifuddin RA (d. 1232/1817) till the 52nd Da’i Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin RA (d. 1435/2014). It also discusses the ‘historical trends in political policies and internal dynamics’. The chapter is supplemented by a discussion of the ideology, literature and culture of Dawoodi Bohras authored by Yaqutato Da'watil Haqq Shehzadi Dr. Bazat Tahera Baisaheba Qutbuddin in the same book.
