“I hate for you to be Slanderers,” the Advice of Amirul Mumineen

20 March 2015

'And do not insult those they invoke other than Allah , lest they insult Allah in enmity without knowledge. So, We have adorned for every community their deeds; then to their Lord they shall return, and He will tell them what they used to do.'

(Surat al-An’aam: 108)

This article was written by Ra'sul Hududil Mayameen Janab Syedi Aziz Bhaisaheb Qutbuddin in 2015.

The verse quoted above clearly instructs us not to revile and slander those whom they call upon other than Allah Ta’ala, because if we do, in their ignorance, they will in return spitefully slander and speak blasphemy about Him.

Our mawali Tahereen guide us to the right path and advise us as to how we should conduct ourselves. In the context of the Siffin battle between Amirul Mumineen Imam Ali SA and Mu’awiya bin Abi Sufyan, it is reported that Maulana Ali SA heard some of his followers slandering the people of Shaam, who were the supporters of Mu’awiya. Upon hearing their insults, Maulana Ali SA said to them:

'I hate for you to be slanderers. But if you describe their (mis) deeds and indicate their (sorry) state of affairs -that is better statement and a stronger argument against them. Instead of slandering them, it is better you say “May Allah Ta’ala safeguard our lives and their lives and may He reconcile between the two parties. May Allah Ta’ala guide them from their delusion, so that those who are ignorant may recognize the Truth (haqq), and those who have been persevering in folly/ignorance and enmity may repent.'

We are grateful to Allah Ta’ala that we are today with Amirul Mumineen’s SA Da’i, whose advice and guidance to us has been the advice and guidance of Amirul Mumineen SA.

May we continue on this path, and thank Allah Ta’ala for the guidance we receive through his Da’i to act according to the principles and values of Islam. We are confident in our belief and practice, noting the waywardness of those who have gone astray and praying that may Allah Ta’ala guide them to the Truth.

Wallahu yahdi man yashaa’u ila siraatin mustaqeem (Allah guides whom He wills to Siraate-Mustaqeem- Surat al-Nur:46)

How can we help?
