Princeton University Talk on Amirul Mumineen SA by Shehzadi Tahera baisaheba

10 October 2015

Titled “Sayings, Sermons & Teachings of Imam Ali: Islamic Wisdom and Universal Values,” Shehzadi Dr. Bazat-Tahera baisaheba’s talk featured three aspects of Amirul Mumineen’s teachings: (1) personal ethics with a call for virtues such as honesty and courage, and warnings against vices such as oppression and deceit, (2) government and society, with an advocacy of harmonious co-existence among communities and fairness and compassion in ruling all of God’s creatures, and (3) constant mindfulness of the hereafter, coupled with a happy, engaged, and godly life on earth. Shzd. Dr. Tahera baisaheba read out translations of a selection of Amirul Mumineen’s sayings, sermons, epistles, and verse, and discussed their contexts and implications.

The audience of the talk numbered over a hundred, and they were from the Princeton University’s teaching and student community, as well as from the larger New Jersey area, including Shia and Sunni Muslims, as well as individuals from other faiths. Shzd. Dr. Tahera baisaheba spoke for about 35 minutes, and this was followed by a half hour lively question-and-answer session. The audience members asked some excellent questions, and they also expressed deep appreciation for Shzd. Dr. Tahera baisaheba’s words. One audience member said that, “tonight we heard Imam Ali speaking to us.” This nemat of having the opportunity to speak to people of Imam Ali’s wisdom derives from the barakat of Syedna Qutbuddin’s ilm, tarbiyyat, and doa.
