“I promise you, with the Qur’an Majeed as my witness that we will enter Paradise” – Syedna Taher Fakhruddin TUS Second Waaz, Ashara Mubaraka 1441H.
Every Muslim will agree that the Qur’an-e-Majeed is the ultimate word of God. Therefore, for any Muslim to take an oath on the Qur’an is the ultimate affirmation.
Today, as Syedna Taher Fakhruddin TUS took the Qur’an Majeed in his right hand and promised Mumineen, “I promise you, with the Qur’an Majeed as my witness that we will enter Paradise” – Mumineen were reminded of the heart-rending sight of Syedna Qutbuddin RA’s waaz five years ago in which he raised the Qur’an Majeed and swore to Mumineen that he was the only rightful mansoos of Syedna Burhanuddin RA. As Maulana TUS emphatically exclaimed, this promise by the Mazoon-e-Dawat of Syedna Burhanuddin is the only proof anyone needs of who is the rightful successor.
Today, during the second waaz of Ashara Mubaraka 1441H, Syedna TUS took Mumineen on a captivating journey spanning thousands of years, and explaining the true meaning of safinatun najaat, the ark of salvation.
Every school going child is familiar with the narrative of ‘Noah’s Ark’, where Nuh Nabi AS is said to have constructed a giant ark, filled it with one male and one female of every species, weathered a great storm, and repopulated the Earth with the beings he saved. It is a well-known narrative but indeed a parable that is metaphorical and requires logical explanation.
As Syedna TUS noted, it is scarcely possible for Nuh Nabi SA to literally have built a safina that actually contained one male and one female of every species. When Nuh SA received the command to build the safina it was indeed actually a command to establish his wasi, his mansoos, his successor. The ‘great storm’ was the fitnat created by those consumed by jealousy, who rejected Nuh SAW’s wasi. Those who boarded Nuh SA’s safina are indeed those who accepted Nuh SA designation of successor. These ashaab us-safina attained salvation by submitting to Nuh SA’s command.
Such fitnat was not exclusive to the zamaan before Rasulullah SA, and Syedna TUS recounted that during the time of Rasulullah SA there was those who, having congratulated Maulana Ali AS after Ghadir-e-Khumm as being their “maula”, later rebelled against Ali AS – iqraar followed by inkaar.
Syedna TUS once again demonstrated the resilience of the safinatun najaat by reminding Mumineen that at Ali Zayn al-Abedin AS was with Husain AS at the battle of Karbala. Those who wished to extinguish the Imamat were unable to do so, and the same sword that martyred Imam Husain AS was unable to harm his mansoos Ali Zayn al-Abedin AS. The safinatun najaat was unharmed.
Syedna TUS recounted that during the time of the third Dai, Syedna Hatim RA, Hasan bin Mohammed bin Syedna Zoeb rose in revolt. The fitnat of La’een Jafar caused great strife and difficulty. During the zamaan of Syedna Dawood RA, Sulayman revolted after having previously accepted Syedna Dawood RA as the Dai – noting the parallel with today’s reality, that those who revolted against Syedna Qutbuddin RA did so after previously accepting him as Syedna Burhanuddin RA’s mansoos – pointing out the Ibleesiyat in their behaviour. Iqraar followed by inkaar.
In fact – from the time of Adam SA, in every age, there has been fitnat in Dawat but despite the heavy waves – amwaaj – the safinatun najaat continues to steadfastly propel the Mumineen of every age toward salvation.
In every age there are those who are consumed by flames of jealousy who plot against the haq na dhani but they are always powerless to prevent the safinatun najaat from resolutely keeping its’ path. The chain of tasalsul remains and will always remain unbroken.
Syedna TUS once said “the doors of haq always remain open”. Syedna TUS bestowed priceless doa mubarak that those who have been led astray by the waves of fitnat once again find their way to the safinatun najaat and attain salvation.
Syedna TUS explained that humans are different to other beings because humans have the gift of aql – intellect. Through the power of intellect humans are empowered to see what other beings cannot, to perceive that life in this world is temporary and that death is a certainty. Syedna TUS encouraged Mumineen to harness their power of intellect to seek knowledge, and to distance ourselves from those who say that to question is to blaspheme. Syedna drew a striking metaphor in which he explained that a machine that does not have any ability to compute is only a scrap of metal. If human beings were only put on this earth to eat and sleep, then they would not have been given the power of the intellect.
The gift of intellect necessarily means that humans are endowed with an ability to make conscious choices. We Mumineen are fortunate that we have chosen to follow Syedna Taher Fakhruddin TUS, whose mohabbat ensures that we are safely aboard the safinatun najaat because of which we will be victorious in the hereafter.
Syedna TUS began shahadat bayan with the marsiya ‘Fulkul Husaine be Karbala’ composed by Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin RA and prayed the shahadat bayan of Maulana Ali Asgar AS and Imam Husain AS with heart-rending fervour.
