Syedna Taher Fakhruddin TUS delivered a nooraniwaaz on the theme of mohabbat & walayat on 7th Muharram 1440H in Darus Sakina, Mumbai. Maulana began the waaz by addressing Mumineen as those who maintain mohabbat of Maulatena Fatema AS, her father Rasulullah AS and her husband Ameerul Mumineen AS. Maulana narrated an episode when Rasulullah AS described the shaan of Ahle Bayt and mentioned that heavens (aasman) and Earth (zameen) were illuminted from Fatema’s AS noor, that is why she is named ‘Zahra’ (lit. shining).
In the Quranic ayat (42:23), Khuda Ta’ala tells Rasulullah AS to inform the people that he demands no reward for his establishing of Islam and Dawat, other than to maintain love for ‘those close to him’ (qurba). When asked who this referred to, he clarified that Ali, Fatema and Aimmat in their progeny. Syedna Qutbuddin RA would often state that yesterday the sun rose, today it rises and one with logic will agree that surely tomorrow it will rise. Similarly, yesterday there was an Imam, today there is an Imam and tomorrow, surely, an Imam will be present.
Maulana narrated the incident of Maulatena Fatema’s AS chadar and that Syedna Taher Saifuddin RA would state that chadar represents Dawat –when Imam is in seclusion, Mumineen receive Imam’s noor through Duat Mutlaqeen. Through mohabbat of Duat, our mohabbat of Aimmat, Panjetan and Fatema AS is accepted. When Ziyad al-Aswad came to Imam Mohammed al-Baqir’s AS hazrat, the Imam had tears in his eyes seeing the difficulties Ziyad undertook in his travel. The Imam firmly proclaimed three times that “there is no religion but mohabbat” (halid deen’o illal hub).
Maulana TUS continued expounding on Maulatena Fatema’s AS exalted position. Allah Ta’ala perfomed Ali and Fatema’s nikah in the heavens and then Rasulullah AS performed them on Earth. Rasulullah AS was so happy at this moment and when asked why, he responded that it is because of this marriage that their (Ali & Fatema’s) mohibeen’s sins are forgiven and they will enter jannat. Furthermore, Fatema’s AS greatest virtue is that Rasulullah AS has said for her “O’ Fatema, my nafs is fida on you, you are sayyedatul nisa al alameen.”
Maulana TUS narrated Syedna Idris’s (19th Dai) RA bayaan that amongst Fatema’s AS names are ‘Dai’ and ‘Mazoon’, who together do khidmat and establish Dawat of Imam and Hujjat. He recalled that in 1422H, Syedna Burhanuddin RA performed Ashara Mubaraka in Houston while Syedna Qutbuddin RA in Madras. Syedna Burhanuddin RA did this bayaan on 7th Muharram, and coincidentally so did Syedna Qutbuddin RA, who was not aware at the time due to time difference. Maulana TUS emphasized, through several bayaans, the exalted position and crucial role of the Mazoon. Syedna Hatim RA (3rd Dai) states that Dai is Mumin’s spiritual father and Mazoon mother. Syedna Ali bin Mohammed al-Waleed (5th Dai) states that Mazoon always speaks the truth, whether it is in his favor or against him. Maulana gave several examples that through the many fitnats Dawat suffered in satr, Mazoon always remained steadfast, doing khidmat and hujjat (argue) in favor of the Dai.
Maulana narrated a unique fable (hikayat) from Syedna Abdeali Saifuddin RA. Once upon a time, a man had certain work from iblees and was instructed to go to a certain place and recite particular verses. On doing so, he would see iblees and his army and to only speak to iblees after his army seats him on his throne. The man does so, approaches to speak iblees and tells him “I am very jealous of the son of my kaka. He has numerous nemats.” Iblees questions why and offers that “I could make it so the he is generous towards you.” The man responds “He is already very generous towards me but no, that is not what I want.” Then iblees offers that “I can give you more nemat than he has.” The man again refuses. Finally, iblees questions “OK, so what has he done to you? What do you want?” The man responds “I am very jealous of him. I simply want him to lose all his nemat.” Upon hearing this response, iblees says to his army “Look at this man, and they call me shaitan!”. Maulana remarked on the moral of the hikayat, such is the potent affects of jealousy, one should always abstain from it and remain steadfast on shukr of Allah Ta’ala for the countless nemats bestowed upon us, that is the best sanctuary from this vicious vice.
Maulana TUS began the main bayaan, reciting Quranic ayat (15:87). People of tafseer say “sab masani” is a reference to Surat al-Hamd, but if that was the case, then why the ayat refer it as separately from Quran? Surat al-Hamd is also known as Surat al-Walayat, indiciating that walayat is mandatory in faith. Walayat equates to obedience (ta’at). Jene maano, ehni waat maano. Maulana explained that “sab masani” is a reference to the heptads (groups of seven, satra) of Imams in Rasulullah’s AS daur, and holding their walayat is mandatory. 21 Imams in 3 heptads named: atimma, kholafa, and ashhaad. And the 4th heptad is named abdaal and keeps repeating until Qaim AS will appear. Maulana TUS recited names of all 21 Imams and briefly did their zikr.
Maulana bestowed a single piece of guidance (mowizat) – always maintain ta’at (of the Imam and in their seclusion, of the Dai). That encompasses everything else. Maulana prayed hamd, salawat and bestowed immense doa for Mumineen; may we always do tasbih of Maulatena Fatema AS, our farzando and our farzando’sfarzando. The waaz ended on pur-dard shahadat zikr of Aqa Hussain SA and Ma Fatema SA, recalling the heart-wrenching zulm she endured for 70 days after Rasulullah’s AS wafaat.
