Aqa Maula Syedna Taher Fakhruddin TUS arrived in Indore on a historic, first visit to the city as Dai al-Mutlaq on 24th June 2018. Mumineen and dignitaries received Syedna Fakhruddin TUS at Indore airport, and Syedna was escorted in a motorcade to his residence. Mumineen in large numbers took barakaat in namaaz, majlis, and qadambosi bethak. Throughout the day’s packed program Syedna Fakhruddin continuously interacted with Mumineen. He heard each and every Mumin’s araz, giving priceless words of guidance, wisdom and doa.

Syedna TUS also counselled the Indore Mas’ul and Jamaat committee on the way forward; to serve with sincerity and dedication for the betterment of the Community; to ensure a sincere, efficient, accountable, and transparent working of the Jamaat.

Syedna TUS said to the Mumineen of Indore: “Our coming here is a message that the mission of Dawat is established and thriving, it is up to the people of this city to ensure their well-being and salvation in this world and the Aakherat by answering that call.”

In the evening, Syedna Fakhruddin TUS proceeded to an inter-faith Eid function he had been invited to as its guest of honour. Entitled Silsila Yaari Ka, the function aimed to bring faith leaders together on the platform of cooperation and understanding. The function was organised by Ninad and Adabi Kunba, and was attended by faith leaders from Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, and Sikh communities, as well as prominent members from the police, government, press, and social services of Indore.

Syedna TUS was greeted by the organizers in a welcome address as, “a most knowledgeable and visionary Muslim leader, head of the Dawoodi Bohra Community.”

Shaikh Yusuf bhai Muchala, senior Advocate, Bombay High Court, and representative of Muslim Personal Law Board, introduced Syedna Fakhruddin TUS as being someone who is steeped in the knowledge and traditions of the faith through his years of learning and service with Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin RA and Syedna Khuzaima Qutbuddin RA. He said that Syedna TUS was a dynamic leader for our times, having also achieved highest levels of attainment in Universities in Mumbai and London, and having set up and being at the helm of vast and successful businesses in India and USA himself.

In his own address to the audience, Syedna Fakhruddin emphasized the need for introspection, for all leaders to guide their own communities to be productive and peaceful citizens of our nation. Syedna quoted Rasulullah SA who said, “all people are the children of God, and whosoever benefits His children the most, is the most beloved to Him.” Syedna said that, “we should do first what we expect of others.” Syedna recalled an anecdote of Gandhiji where he was implored by a mother to tell her son to not eat so much sugar. Gandhiji asked her to bring him back in a few days. When she did, he said to her “how can I tell him not to, when I myself was unable to do so?”

When Syedna descended from the stage, he was immediately surrounded by members of the gathering, wanting to seek his blessing, to get a word of counsel from him, to kiss his hand, to get a photograph with him. This continued for almost half an hour until the organisers had to intervene to allow Syedna and the all those gathered to proceed for the Eid dinner.

Prior to the Eid function, Syedna Fakhruddin accepted repeated requests of the Indore press core, and attended a press conference answering a wide range of questions. In a question about the abuse of power by leaders, Syedna replied that no one is above the law, and religious leaders, who are the trustees of good principles of religion, have a double responsibility to practice what they preach.

In another question about his plans for the Dawoodi Bohra community Syedna replied that he would tread the path of his forebears - especially Syedna Taher Saifuddin RA, Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin RA, and Syedna Khuzaima Qutbuddin RA – to dynamically implement the principles of the faith, both, maintaining the sanctity of the faith, and according to the need of the hour.

In a question about communal harmony, Syedna said that we all eat off the same land, then why quarrel. He said the prosperity of all communities are interlinked.
