Official Launch of the Qutbi Jubilee Scholarship Program: Scholarships on Offer Now for Academic Year 2014/2015

QJSP aims to offer financial aid to Dawoodi Bohra students pursuing degrees in higher education in a variety of fields including Management, Arts, Engineering, Literature, Mathematics, Economics, Education and Medicine. We are pleased to officially launch on the occasion of the Urus Mubarak of the great scholar, the 19th Dai Syedna Idris Imaduddin RA

For the academic year 2014/2015 the QJSP program will fund:

  •  One foreign study scholarship (US $10,000)
  •  Ten Indian higher education scholarships (Rs. 1 lakh each)
    Including two scholarships to the Athena School of Management Powai for their Masters in Business Administration (MBA) programme. Athena will award an additional Merit Scholarship of Rs. One Lakh Fifty Thousand each of these two students over the two year course. This scholarship is contingent on acceptance through Athena’s application process, which must be completed by September 23, 2014 for admission this year http://www.athenaschoolofmanagement.com/ 
  •  Fifty primary/secondary school scholarships (Rs. 10,000 each)

There are limited scholarships available so students are encouraged to apply quickly. The scholarships will be awarded based on the criteria of academic merit and financial need. At least one third of the scholarships will be awarded to qualified women and girl students to support higher education for women. Renewal of the scholarship is contingent on academic progress. Aqa Moula has instituted these scholarships in remembrance and in honor of Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin.

QJSP’s general policy is to grant an average of 40% of the scholarship in full, the rest of the scholarship amount will be structured as qardan hasanat (an interest free soft student loan).

QJSP will be operated under the personal guidance of Syedna Khuzaima Qutbuddin. First, QJSP is dedicated to re-establishing the importance of higher education in the community, especially with regards to women. Second, QJSP is committed to the principles of good governance, transparency, proper management and appropriation of funds, continuous improvement, and a 360° feedback loop. Third, QJSP is dedicated to extending its outreach to all Indians by understanding and addressing the problems of higher education in India. Students from the Dawoodi Bohra community pursuing degrees in college, graduate and postgraduate programs in India and abroad. Based on the programs pledge to support higher education endeavors for women, there is a minimum quota: at least one third of the bursaries will be highly qualified women. Also, in the future when resources permit, QJSP is dedicated to extending its outreach beyond Dawoodi Bohras by understanding and addressing the problems of higher education in India.

The new logo of QJSP features the Fatimid mishkaat emanating the light of knowledge. The chosen design was submitted by Qusai bhai Jafferji. 

QJSP: Introducing the QJSP Executive Committee

The Executive Committee of QJSP will work towards ensuring that the objectives outlined above are met. The Executive Committee is also responsible for the application, interview and selection process. The committee has been established with the raza Mubarak of Syedna Khuzaima Qutbudidn TUS. We are pleased to introduce the four dedicated members: 

Shz Dr Aziz Bhaisaheb
Aziz bhaisaheb has attained the ‘ilm of Aale Muhammad from Syedna Burhanuddin and Syedna Qutbuddin for many years. Aziz bhaisaheb is Hafizul Quran and has done his MA and PhD in Arabic Literature at the University of London. He completed his BA in Arabic Studies and Political Science at the American University in Cairo. Aziz bhaisaheb is a trustee of the Zahra Hasanaat Charitable Trust. He has been actively involved in multiple social community initiatives under the guidance of Syedna Qutbuddin TUS. 

Ms. Sukayna Sabir
Bringing on board her expertise in running a need based scholarship program for well deserving students is Sukaynah ben.  For many years, she has been actively  with the American Fellowship Scholarship Service (India), American Fellowship Exchange Program for the young youth, Jaycees, and presently with Rotary International.  Through Rotary she has been promoting Computer Education for the Girl Child and is also actively involved in a program that sponsors primary/secondary education to the less privileged. On a personal front, she is working with artisans around India to revive the traditional dying arts. This has given job opportunities to several talented but destitute workers in India. Sukaynah has done her graduation and post graduation from Pratts Institute, USA and Birmingham School of Design, UK. She worked with Corplan Inc. in Manhattan, NY as a Senior Design Consultant and also has worked with Early Settler, Melbourne, Australia. She has also worked with Terralene Fuels Corporation and Quadra Energy Systems in British Columbia, Canada. Also, handling her own Design Consultancy firm, Wind's O' Design, for nearly three decades she brings her experience of interacting with all strata of the society at the grass root level to the forefront.  She believes her motivation and passion to help the community at large is her driving force.

Mr. Aditya Singh
Aditya-ji is the Director of the Athena School of Management. Previously he was the Director -Strategy & Acquisitions at Aspirations Galore, a leading Talent Acquisition and Consulting and HR firm. Aditya holds a Degree in Economics along with a Post Graduation in Management from the prestigious SP Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai. He is an active member of Rotary International. Aditya is a special invitee to the Indian Merchant Chambers. He was President of the Rotary Club of Mumbai Sealand 2011-2012. Aditya brings in his expertise and knowhow of the Indian education scene and the corporate world to QJSP. 

Mr. Abbas Thathia
Abbas bhai is the Regional Head for West and Central Africa managing sales for an India based multinational company specializing in the manufacture of Industrial Chemicals. He completed studies at the American University in Dubai and U21-Global, Singapore. He is also a Professor of ” Business Ethics ” and ” International Trading ” at the University of Kinshasa, R.D.Congo ( Africa ). Inspired by the dedication with which his parents encouraged his education and the difference it has made in his life, Abbas bhai is keen to engage in a program that aims to give the same opportunity to others.   

QJSP: Education Council & Advisory Board

We are in the process of developing the Education Council and Advisory Board; we hope to have this council and board in place by the academic year 2015/2016.

The Education Council will comprise of an international group of reputed professionals in the fields of law, art, science, commerce, medicine, engineering, IT, architecture and education who will guide applicants and students in their higher education pursuits and they will also be responsible for quarterly follow ups with the scholarship recipients. 

The Advisory Board will comprise of a group of respected individuals from Dawoodi Bohra and other communities.  Additionally, this Board will have two visionaries in the Indian higher education system. The Board will meet once a year to advise the Executive Committee on the performance and future initiatives of QJSP, including affiliations with educational institutions and universities.
